About Us

Started in 2004, Lindsay Designs, as it was known at the time, became Pattern and Paw in Winter 2008.

So who is Lindsay anyway?

Lindsay is the co-owner and founder of Pattern & Paw. She is what you would call "crafty," having made everything from clay miniatures to jewelry, friendship bracelets to stationery. "My first 'big' project grew from a gag gift I gave to my mother when I was 13. As most mothers do, she was beginning to forget things, and always complained she was losing her marbles. So, I gave her a bag of marbles. (haha). My parents got overly excited at my overwhelming creativity and, to make a long story short, we went into mass production. We were convinced that "Losing Your Marbles" would be the next pet rock. No such luck. Our attic is still full to the brim with little bags of marbles."

Lindsay not only tried her hand at making just about everything, but she was always trying to pawn her crafts on other people for monetary compensation. "Every time I made something cool, I figured everyone should have one and I'd try to sell it. I even got busted once for selling my friendship bracelets on the elementary school playground. Parents were concerned why their kids weren't getting lunch... because they were using the money to buy things from me. Oops!" Nice going, Lindsay! Despite being busted, we're glad you continued to make stuff. The business ultimately grew out of that crafty aptitude.

To Infinity and Beyond!

In 2008, Lindsay was joined by her husband-to-be, Taylor, who is a master at beautifully wrapping your orders with our signature tissue and sticker. Taylor processes the orders and takes care of all of the "fun" business stuff like accounting. He's got a keen eye for detail and mad organization skills and this business would not run without him. While both Lindsay and Taylor work extra hard to get your orders to you quickly, they both admit that the real boss around these parts is a gray ball of fur known as Kalypso. Kalypso, or Kitty as she is more affectionately known, rules this roost with an iron (ok, furry) fist, and we love her dearly.

Our Green Promise

Every Pattern & Paw product is made entirely by hand in Nashville, Tennessee. We take great pride in the quality of our work and attention to detail, something you're not going to find in a collar mass-produced in China. Not to mention the energy saved on overseas transportation.

We feel very strongly about reducing our impact on the environment, and are committed to taking steps, both in our business and personal lives, to live more sustainably. Our Priority mailers are made from post-consumer content, and we encourage you to recycle them once you've received your package. Our First Class orders are shipped in corrugated cardboard mailers that are completely recyclable and reusable - you can reuse them multiple times for sending your own goodies to friends and family. We do this ourselves - reusing shipping boxes and materials that are still in good condition, including packing peanuts and bubble wrap when they are needed.

We wrap our orders in minimal packaging, only tissue made from 100% recycled fiber and sealed with a single sticker. No unnecessary plastic or padding. So not only will your order arrive looking like a beautifully wrapped gift, it'll be a gift to the planet as well.

You might also notice we never include paper invoices with retail orders. You've received email confirmations with your order details upon placing your order as well as when it ships, both of which are easy to save or print for your records. By not printing paper invoices, we're saving thousands of sheets of paper and hundreds of trees every year.

We work mainly during the day, and utilize as much natural light as possible with the lovely windows in our office space. For the few stormy days or evenings where we do need to work, our office is outfitted with compact fluorescent bulbs.
